I watched it, and just became really sad. Where I feel Taylor Swift’s similar song was anthemic and really was for all women, this feels totally for the male gaze - and it’s really sad that this is where we’re at in 2024. There also feels that there was a significant lack of body diversity in the video and again, it’s super sad in 2024 that this is what girls have to look up to!

It's giving Satisfaction video from 2002 vibes!

lol agreed. Her comeback just isn’t it if this is what she is bringing out. Mega cringe, and, disappointing about her partnership with Dr Luke :(

Laura, I love your writing soooo much. I love the topics you choose. And your comic turns of phrase (such as ‘inserting a petrol nozzle in your arse’) make me properly lol. I completely agree on this. But I feel like I see similar videos get a pass all the time? I remember watching Janelle Monae’s lipstick lover for the first time and feeling properly depressed. Just as KP’s vid is meant to a feminist anthem I get that Janelle’s is meant to be some kind of representation of women loving women.. but to me that video just looks like it’s made for men. I think I’m out of step with this though. Can someone explain to me why that video is ok and this one isn’t? Genuine question!

Yikes. Thanks for watching it so we don’t have to, sounds absolutely awful and offensive and clueless.
