The Internet is a fickle place and thankfully for Jennifer Lopez, her time in the ring is now over and up next in the blue corner, we have Lily Allen.
It started with Graham Norton’s best ever guest, Miriam Margoyles, giving Lily as an answer, when asked if there were any celebrities she disliked.
The pair were on Graham’s sofa together in 2014 and clearly Lily made such an impression, it’s stayed with Miriam for the last 10 years.
“She thought when she was on the programme that it was all about her,” said Miriam. “She thought, ‘Who is this woman? Miriam who?’”
Now, not to play devil’s advocate, but as someone who has watched every single Graham Norton episode Miriam’s appeared on (repeatedly), I think it’s fair to say that Miriam does also make the show all about her. But, she has the self-deprecating humour and stories to pull it off.
However, that wasn’t all Miriam had to say about Lily. “She wasn’t friendly and I didn’t like that and so I showed my dislike, which wasn’t very nice of me because she was much younger than me and I should have just taught her how to behave.”
In the grand scheme of things, there isn’t too much here that would make a publicist panic. After all, not being friendly to a fellow guest on a talk show ten years ago, isn’t a cancellable offence.
But then, Miquita Oliver shared her own Lily story and although it might not be my place, I am starting to see why Miriam kept a ten year grudge.
Turns out Miquita and Lily are the unlikely friendship I never knew existed, even though they have their own podcast, Miss Me.
In their latest episode, Miquita shared a story from the ‘00s where Lily, went out of her way to sleep with Miquita’s mutual popstar crush,

“I’d like to tell a story of when Lily Allen sabotaged me,” Miquita began. “A pop star in the early noughties, fancied me. I found out he fancied me. I told Lily that I liked him and she was like, “Well, actually, I like him”.
Now, clearly the pair are still friends, so all should be forgotten if Miquita’s forgiven her, but, I can’t help but think what Lily did next was the shittiest move.
The move being, purposefully flying out to a festival in Japan. “Seducing him”, in the words of Miquita and then phoning Miquita the next day to tell her she had slept with him.
Again, clearly it’s water under the bridge now, but Miquita does admit that she “Hated” her for it and based on her reaction, even though it’s not my grudge to hold, I’m gonna say that Lily Allen is a terrible person.
“I was getting mine,” Lily giggled in response. Adding, “I think popstars are fair game”.
Even as Miquita called her ruthless, the smugness continued, “I flew to Japan to lock that one in,” she confessed.
Maybe it’s the Britishness in me, but if Lily had shown some level of regret, instead of showboating about something that clearly did upset her friend at the time, maybe she could have saved herself from the terrible category.
Alas, she didn’t and these bad vibes are giving a lot more credibility to Miriam’s “Unfriendly” observations.
Now, does that make David Harbour guilty by association? I’ve always had a thing for Chief Hopper…
Did you listen to the whole episode of that podcast though, or just go from the clips? Cos from the clips I kinda felt like lily was a bitch. But when I listened to the podcast I didn't - she was 16 I think, she had also fancied him, and she did really apologise.
I dunno, I think that podcast episode does a good job of showing a real friendship which has been through some shit, and who doesn't do stupid shit when they're 16. I like that they have a very open honest friendship where they admit to being less than perfect - and as I'm typing I'm remembering how in an earlier episode it's revealed that Miquita kissed Lily's boyfriend of a year..
I have such mixed feelings about Lily. I read her autobiography and comes across as self obsessed, possibly narcissistic traits and actually quite unlikeable. Yet I really enjoy her on this podcast, she is funny, and self deprecating
