For my Substack, I’m not overly keen on ‘shopping’ listicles and round ups. I really only want to talk about things that I genuinely love and use here, not just products I saw online and thought fit an aesthetic.
Plus, there’s my personal hatred of affiliate links. That’s dramatic, I don’t hate affiliate links, I just never can be arsed to use them. Although I’m sure I probably should.
But, then this idea came to me. Rather than product round ups, I could share my current hyper-fixations, because I definitely am that type of person that obsesses over something.
So, here’s what’s been keeping me occupied for the month of October…
1. This hobby
I’ve traded my friendship bracelets, my unfinished Van Gogh Lego set and dare I say, even some of my allotted Animal Crossing time, for colouring books.
I’ve almost completed my second one. I’ve gone through about 20 colouring pens and it’s the entire reason for the lack of Substacks around here.
Apologies about that.
I just can’t get enough, specifically of the viral books you’ve undoubtedly seen all over your TikTok. You know, the ones that have animals knitting in cosy armchairs in front of the fireplace?
I just find it so therapeutic. Plus it stops me scrolling, quitens my mind, sparks some creativity and is helping me quit an emotional habit I’m sure I’ll talk to you about in due course.
Oh, and if you’re interested. I’ve completed Fuzzy Friends and am on my way to finishing Fuzzy Hygge (all from Amazon).
2. This bagel recipe
I did share this on my Instagram Stories, but this is the lunch that I just cannot stop making.
Now, when I use the word ‘recipe’, what I really mean is, you buy everything from M&S and if you’re feeling really fancy, place it inside the bagel using a pair of tongs.
You will need:
Sesame Seed Bagel (toasted)
Plain roast chicken slices
Crispy pre-cooked bacon strips
Kewpie Mayo (essential, cannot be regular)
Oh, and of course, a bit of butter
3. This scent
Ever since I came back from my New York trip with Glossier, all I have worn is Doux.
Adding woody notes to a skin scent I already find so comforting, makes it feel like I’m upgrading my duvet to a higher tog (which I still need to do).
It’s definitely stronger than the original You as well and I find I can still smell it on my clothes the next day.
If snuggly had a smell, this would surely be it.
4. These shoes
I am so late to the Ugg Tasman slipper game, but let’s just say, I fully understand the hype.
Although, apparently my ones are Ugg Tazz Slippers, so Google tells me.
Full disclaimer, I was gifted these on a Garnier trip, but having worn them for a good month or so, I’m fully prepared to buy another pair once these wear out and have also (almost) convinced my mum to get some as well.
Another disclaimer, is, that at first, the size 7s didn’t fit me and I thought I was going to have to give them away.
If, like me, the top of your foot is quite high, you might have the same struggle I did, but, give it a week or so and they stretch out just fine.
I wear them in the house, out the house and in these colder months, they are the only shoe I want to wear. Plus, wearing them inside is also helping with my dreaded plantar fascitis which has made an unwanted return.
5. This TikTok account
The fact that I discovered Brooklyn based Krispy Pizza after my NYC trip, will forever haunt me. But, until I can make my way back to the east coast, I’ll be watching Krispy Tok.
Let me set the scene. A family run pizzeria in Brooklyn who film behind the scenes making their pizzas and as one comment stated, it feels like watching a new season of The Sopranos.

The Italian American accents, the perma tans, the jokes and of course the pinwheels, will immediately get you hooked. I know have incoporated “Spesh”, “You know”, “Pie” and “Motz” into my daily vocabulary.
Please feel free to share your hyper-fixations with me. I’m always willing to be enabled…
I'm trying to get back into colouring. Is there any colouring pens you would recommend?
my new fixation is LOTR - audiobooks and films 😂
