I'm breaking up with The Kardashians
The timing of Kim's Tesla photoshoot is impossible to ignore
If you follow me on my social platforms, especially TikTok (@laucapon if you don’t), you might have seen my ‘Unsponsored beauty products I spotted on The Kardashians’ series.
It really does do what it says on the tin. I watch the latest episode, zoom in on any slightly blurry out of focus products and identify what the famous family actually use in their beauty routines.
Turns out, it’s a lot of Schwarzkopf Got2B Glued hairspray.
Seriously, it’s made more appearances than Kylie at this point.
Believe it or not, I’m not a Kardashian super fan. It was just an idea I came up with when watching the show and it’s done me pretty well, with views well into the millions.
However, after Kim’s Tesla photoshoot, I just have zero interest continuing it.
In case you missed it, Kim is on the cover of Perfect magazine. Seemingly doing, what I can only assume is an undisclosed Tesla ad.
Why else would the shoot include not only a Tesla robot, but also a Cybertruck as well.
This move feels like the equivalent of what Donald Trump just did outside The Whitehouse and it’s not the only time Kim has supported the brand.
In one of the last episodes I watched, Kim was driving her own Cybertruck, while her 9-year-old son, had his own custom designed one.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t watch the Kardashians for their political beliefs and I also strongly believe we need to get to a point where we can learn from our differences instead of ostracising one another.
But, this feels different.
As bleak as the world is right now, one thing that is giving me the tiniest glimmer of hope, is that we finally seem to be coming together.
Thanks to Elon Musk’s Trump antics, a Tesla boycott has happened and it appears to be both having an impact and gaining momentum.
Forbes state that Tesla’s share price is down 40% since December - that’s the equivalent of the company losing $500 billion. European sales are way down and Tesla dealerships are being targeted.
I literally watched a TikTok today of these people following Cybertrucks around and projecting images of Elon doing that salute on the back of them.
I’ll be honest, I used to really want a Tesla… admittedly it was at the same time I still enjoyed David Dobrik’s content.
Now, however, I feel like they represent something bad and I internally judge whenever I see someone driving one. I know that’s not fair, but if I had a Tesla, there’s no way I’d be keeping it now.
That’s the problem with Kim’s photoshoot. It isn’t just, that it shows support to Elon, it’s the timing of it.
It’s a choice to share these images now. Even giving her the benefit of the doubt and saying they were taken before Elon went bad. If that was me, I would pay all the money in the world to stop them being released and if I couldn’t, I’d want to make it crystal clear, it was against my will.
It’s never felt more ‘them and us’. The them being the billionaires, politicians and companies that are destroying the world.
It just isn’t the time to be on the wrong side.
The Kardashians have always been controversial and I’m aware, this isn’t Kim’s first rodeo. But, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel different this time.
I feel differently about it.
For all the misogyny that family receives (the Timothee Chalamet subreddit is a truly awful place), this feels like a political statement that I don’t want to appear to co-sign in any way.
Not to mention, I can no longer bring myself to watch the show. It’s so boring, staged and repetitive now. I fast forward as much as I can and I know the disinterest is spreading.
Much like how we’re all trying to find Amazon and Target replacements, I’ll now be looking for a new unsponsored beauty series.
Suggestions always welcome.
Thank you for this from the dumpster fire across the pond!
I used to watch the Kardashian’s show just for mindless escape. I will never watch it again nor will I watch anything they are in nor will I buy anything they produce after seeing that disgusting display of Kim in her Nazi tram.
