I had no idea ASOS were struggling! I’ve not found anything from them I liked enough to buy recently and I just thought it was me. I’ve had a couple of Simoly Be orders on the last 2 weeks and they’re all going back, their sizes are extensive but they’re not as accurate as ASOS. Yours don’t make their returns process obvious (again, it could be me) so I have stuff hanging in the wardrobe that doesn’t fit. ASOS just worked for me, I’ll be lost without them...
Asos is stressssful! Having so many brands makes shopping overwhelming. If I go on there and filter down for say, a black shift dress. If the results are over 100 I'm honestly shutting that app straight down. Opposite to your gripe (sorry!) But yeah....too much!
It’s years since I shopped at ASOS, I couldn’t find a decent fit so stopped for years and shopped at Evans for a while until
I realised I wasn’t a grandma who needed diamanté encrusted T-shirts or cold shoulder tops, seriously who were their designers, but all my trousers were 100% exclusively evans black short leg for years even when I didn’t buy their tops.
Then Debenhams when some of their brands did plus size, many coats were bought in the blue cross sale.
Then Next when they extended their range. Also Asda.
I follow @jessontheplussize on insta. She’s genuinely plus size, her body shape is very similar to mine and I think she dresses well. She works with In The Style and whilst I don’t always love the edits they are genuinely inclusive size wise and always model outfits on a range of sizes on their site. I’ll never be into cropped tops or cut outs or slogan tees or things you can’t wear a bra with nor do I want shapeless sacks that scream plus size alert - but it’s the first time in my life I’ve found leggings that fit and jeans that fit. I haven’t worn jeans in 25 years cos if I did find something to fit my generous thighs they be massive in the waist and gape at the back and 5 inch too long in the leg. But now I have 2 blue pair and a black from ITS!!! I don’t mean to bang on about them cos they’re not perfect obvs but as someone who was a teenager in the 90s, 5ft1 and size 24, couldn’t shop anywhere for years and never had anyone to look at with my bodyshape I love that it exists and it feels real and genuine rather than a gesture.
Also just to tie in with an article you wrote a few weeks ago I started commenting on but then forgot and by the time I remembered the comment had timed out and I couldn’t be bothered to retype, sorry about that.
It was about plus-size influencers and I was calling out Jess, I think she’s a 26 so genuinely plus size. She does a few try on hauls also boots which is good to see. She talks about stuff that isn’t often talked about but can be a problem for us larger ladies such as face sweating and chub rub both of which I’ve suffered from for years but never seen anyone talk about and she’s tried out things that help that I’ve bought and they do. As well as more generic stuff like problem skin and hair removal. Check her out if you’re unfamiliar with her :)
And just to also say, I read and love all your articles. I don’t always comment, 90% of the time I read and run but I do appreciate and enjoy them and love to hear your ‘voice’.
WHAT?! I had no idea and this makes me so sad! im a plus size woman who wears a LOT of ASOS as well. It's one of the best ones out there unfortunately I find that they don't always cater to us esp when they feature an edit. Sadly they only show pieces that go up till size 18 so I feel really left out!
and you're right.. sometimes I really wonder who's buying 80% of the curve range (no one clearly).. Personally, I just want some quality basics and a few trendy items here and there.
For years I have checked ASOS Curve new in daily, and funnily enough over the last year or so I probably check in maybe once a week/fortnight because as you've mentioned, so many ugly weird clothes! I don't know what happened but they need to go back and look at what 2018 - 2021 ASOS Curve was doing so right. And tell me about the not restocking the good stuff! WHY!!!!!! I would be gutted to see it go!
I had no clue this was happening either. I will quite literally be naked if asos goes... and I’m still lusting after Brad Pitt’s fight club dressing gown from the As Seen On Screen days.... my Paris Hilton mini dress however was 🤩🤩🤩
I haven’t used ASOS curve in a couple of years because of exactly what you’ve described. I’m a 20 so I do have more options as there are more brands that offer this size in their regular range but I dread to think of what I would have done when I was in a much bigger body in my 20s and had less money to shop more expensive brands.
